Preparing For Plastic Surgery

Many people seem to think that just having plastic surgery done will change everything. However, it is important to note that proper preparation is vital to a successful experience. This is important not only for people who have plastic surgery done for reconstructive purposes, but also for people who are having it done for cosmetic reasons. Plastic surgery changes things about you, and some people need emotional, as well as physical, help adjusting to those changes. This is especially vital for plastic surgery patients who need to have the surgery as part of a recovery from a severe accident or illness.

For emergency surgery, or for reconstructive surgery, there is very little physical preparation that can take place. The person undergoing the surgery may not even be aware of it. This is why it is important for someone close to the patient to prepare for when the person is confronted by the new reality he or she is living in. A psychologist or counselor can help with this process. Additionally, it would not hurt for a close friend or relative to consult on what he or she can do to help the patient. A good support system needs to be prepared in such cases.

But a good support system is necessary in any case of plastic surgery, even the cosmetic surgery cases. Someone may not fully realize the emotional impact a new look can have on her or him until the surgery is complete. Many ethical and conscientious plastic surgeons make sure that the prospective patient has a psychiatric evaluation before performing the surgery, and some require a couple of counseling sessions prior performing the surgery. This is especially true in cases of plastic surgery that involve gender changes. Proper preparation before such a plastic surgery procedure is extremely necessary. Even though someone might feel as though he or she is finally getting the body that always belonged to him or her, the immensity of the change can still come as a shock.

Physical preparations for plastic surgery are also in order. When the plastic surgery includes procedures to reduce weight, it is important to begin exercising and changing eating habits. Even after the surgery, the body can revert back if no lifestyle changes are made. Exercise and proper eating can also help the body boost its overall wellness, meaning that you will be able to better handle the surgery. It is important that you are as healthy as possible when going in for cosmetic surgery. Even if the surgery is meant to correct obesity, it is possible for you to improve your overall health before going in for surgery.

Finally, many plastic surgeons offer advice and a checklist of things to do in order to get ready for the surgery. It is important that you follow these instructions carefully, so that you have the best possible outcome from your surgery. The directions given by a plastic surgeon are for your own good, and they will help you have a better recovery, both physically and emotionally.

Plastic Surgery - Choose It for the Right Reason

Ask a teenager about plastic surgery and the youngster will have enough to say about the contoured bodies, broad shoulders and the picture perfect features of the cine stars. For most of them, plastic surgery stands for cosmetic plastic surgery and they strongly believe in what the so-called reality TV shows show - a slight downsizing here and a little enhancement there is going to change their lives. But why just blame the youths? The older generation is doing no better either. There seems a great need of setting their notions right.

Plastic surgery is actually a reconstruction or restoration of deformed, destroyed and injured parts of the body. This corrective surgery improves the appearance of the patient and at the same time adds to the functionality of the once deformed, defective part. Thus, birth defects like cleft lips and palates, disfigurements resulting from accidents like burn-marks or for that matter a deformity acquired in the process of disease treatment (removal of one or both the breasts as part of breast cancer treatment) can be set right by plastic surgery specialists.

The history of plastic surgeries runs back to the days of the ancient Egyptians. The word 'plastic' in the name is derived from the Greek word plastikos, which means to form or mold. The molding surgery became popular after the First World War (countless casualties with body disfigurements was an aftermath of the war).

Plastic surgery is real surgery, involving cutting and stitching. Hence, the plastic surgery specialists always emphasize on the patients emotional and physical fitness in order to handle the stresses of surgery. Plastic surgeons, therefore, make it a point to check medical history of patients. An ideal plastic surgery specialist agrees to give a surgical treatment only if he/she finds that the patient is a perfect candidate - nearly the ideal age, ideal weight, not ailing and sticks to a healthy lifestyle. Thus, some surgeons will not perform certain procedures like Rhinoplasty (reshaping the nose) and breast implants on teens.

Plastic surgery costs are a bit exorbitant and especially if you go to a certified plastic surgeon. Nevertheless, considering the complexity involved, you should never be taking any risks. Moreover, if you are undergoing plastic surgery for the right reason (and surgery becomes a dire necessity) you shall have insurance coverage. In case you are opting for a cosmetic plastic surgery and simply want to undergo a metamorphosis from an ugly duckling to a beautiful angel, you will have to bear the costs.

Do not let yourself be fooled by each celebrity plastic surgery news! It may not be possible for you to check for the authenticity of the news but you know, there are simpler and safer ways of changing your looks and gaining confidence if you are thinking of plastic surgery as a makeover option.

For instance, TCA skin peels and laser treatments are external treatments that result in younger looking skin and can treat or even cure many skin conditions from acne and wrinkles to sagging skin and sun spots. TCA skin peels have been used in Hollywood by the stars for years on reality shows like The Swan, MTV's Made, even on Oprah. Unlike Laser treatments, which are only available as a in office or spa treatment, TCA skin peels can now be purchased for at home treatment and they are considered to be the most effective spa treatment available by numerous plastic surgeons and dermatologists alike. For more information on TCA skin peels for home use and other spa treatments please see the link below.

The Use of Natural Face Lift Massage to Help Combat Ageing

In this day and age more and more people, both women and men, are turning to cosmetic surgery to stall the signs of ageing, or reverse the look of ageing on the face. One alternative to this, however, can be the natural face lift massage. Using a method that doesn?t involve the risks associated with surgery, or possible infection can be a very positive determining factor when it comes to improving the look of the face, making it look younger, fresher, and more vibrant.

One of the reasons that the face begins to show the signs of aging is, of course, the fact that as we age the skin and the collagen underneath it become less resilient. Contributing to the natural ageing process however, are things such as stress, external and internal toxins, and the decline in immune system function. Natural face lift massage can go a long way in combating some of these factors, in a way that does not entail long periods of painful recovery.

The object of natural face lift massage is to release the energy inside the outer and inner layers of the skin, rejuvenating the cells and helping them to combat environmental influences as well as they did when you were younger. Natural face life massage helps stimulate the flow of oxygen in the face area, and good oxygen flow is needed for cell rejuvenation. With careful manipulation of certain areas of the face, the masseuse can bring about such changes in the face as reduced lines and wrinkles, more muscle flexibility, less facial tension resulting in less tension headaches, relieving sinus pressure, and promoting a more glowing complexion.

Though the benefits of natural face lift massage may not be immediately apparent as would be with a surgical cosmetic face lift, some people believe that the benefits are longer lasting. A surgical cosmetic face lift solves immediate surface problems, but not the underlying problems that can cause many of the signs of aging in the first place. A surgical face lift makes temporary changes?a natural face lift massage, especially on a regular basis, continues to deal with the underlying issues that bring about the signs of again. After a series of natural face lift massages, you can expect to see a tangible difference within about four to six weeks?but with continuing treatment you will notice that the difference becomes even more pronounced, and the effects last much longer.

When doing research on natural face life massage, be sure to contact only those massage therapists who are certified, and ideally ones who have extensive experience in this type of massage. Have the therapist explain the procedure to you step by step, including what each part of the process is designed to do for your face. Asking these types of questions can help you determine how educated the masseuse is in the process, and what you can expect to happen in a certain period of time. A reputable masseuse will also help you gauge your process so that changes can be implemented if needed.

Should I Have A Face Lift?Wendy Owen

Good question! A face lift is major surgery and surgery means blood, mess, discomfort, stitches and time out to recover. A face lift is expensive too.

There are risks to consider, one is hematoma when the blood collects under the skin and has to be surgically removed. Damage to the nerves that control your facial muscles is another although this is less common. Slow healing time can also be a problem although this is found mainly in smokers. Oh! and don't forget the usual risks that are involved with anesthesia.

On the plus side, the effects of a face lift are quite dramatic. It is without a doubt the fastest and most permanent way of shedding your 'old' face and regaining some of that youthful beauty you were born with..

If you've considered these things and decided that the final outcome is worth it, then proceed, but first please ask yourself these questions.

Why do I want a facelift?

Am I doing this because its going to help me find the job that I really want? This is a valid reason for going ahead. It shouldn't matter to those that hire people how old the applicant is or what they look like, but in the real world we know that these things do play a part. If you have a job that has a lot of public exposure, this may also be a good reason to proceed.

Am I doing this because my partner wants me to?
Red alert! Never let anyone else talk you into having a facelift. It is a very personal decision and one only you should make. Ask yourself why are you with someone who values you only for your appearance. Honor yourself, you are more than your face! Perhaps you should be working on your relationship and leaving your face alone!

I'm thirty five and have lots of wrinkles around my eyes and cheeks, and my neck is all mottled
A face lift won't help this situation. You are better off exploring the avenue of laser resurfacing or even chemical peels, they will strip the old layer of skin off and reveal a smoother younger appearance. It sounds like you have a lot of sun damage, get educated on the use of sunblock! Its everybody's most important cosmetic.

I'm depressed and don't feel good about myself. Maybe a facelift will help me feel better?
It may for a little while, but it sounds like you have a self esteem problem. Learn to love yourself the way you are first. Then if you still feel a facelift would give your morale a boost, go ahead.

I'm in my early fifties and notice my face is starting to sag quite badly. I can afford the surgery and reckon I might just do this for myself. A good idea, you've thought it through and decided its something you want not something you need.

Find a professional surgeon in your area and follow all his/her advice on how to prepare for your face lift. Don't forget to mention any medication you are taking and if you are a smoker, stop two weeks before surgery is scheduled. It will speed your recovery time. Good luck!
